The Boat:
A Rugged and Capable Expedition Vessel

The Boréal 47.2 is a high-latitude go-anywhere yacht—built for adventure, designed for safety, and optimized for performance. Currently under construction, this vessel with a length of 14,36 m is tailored to support both scientific research and eco-tourism along the rugged Norwegian coastline. Constructed from 5083 and 5086 H111 aluminum, the Boréal 47.2 is engineered to handle the demanding conditions of Arctic and sub-Arctic waters while offering a secure and comfortable base for exploration.

Designed for Extreme Conditions

Built with a triple-chined aluminum hull, the Boréal 47.2 offers exceptional strength, stability, and insulation. The design includes:

  • A swing keel with a variable draft (1.02m–2.48m), allowing for shallow-water access while maintaining deep-water performance.
  • Reinforced watertight bulkheads, increasing safety in extreme conditions.
  • A single rudder with NACA profile, ensuring precise handling even in rough seas.
  • 80mm hull insulation above the waterline and 60mm under the bridge, ensuring comfort in cold climates and reducing energy consumption for heating.

A Flexible and Self-Sufficient Expedition Platform

One of the Boréal 47.2's standout capabilities is its ability to be beached in tidal waters, allowing for direct access to remote shorelines and shallow coastal areas. This feature provides unparalleled flexibility for fieldwork, enabling researchers to conduct land-based studies without reliance on docks or tenders.

With its smaller size compared to traditional research vessels, the Boréal 47.2 provides greater maneuverability and access to remote locations where larger ships cannot go. Despite its compact form, it remains fully self-sufficient, featuring:

  • 635 liters of both fuel and water capacity, supporting extended expeditions without frequent resupply.

  • A lithium battery bank, providing extra power storage for onboard systems and research equipment.

  • A 75hp Volvo Penta engine, offering fuel-efficient motoring capabilities.

  • A combination of wind power and solar panels, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Designed for Exploration – Built for Research

The Boréal 47.2 is not just a sailing vessel—it is a fully equipped mobile field station. Features include:

  • A dedicated freezer for lab supplies, ensuring the safe storage of biological samples and other temperature-sensitive materials.

  • A raised deck saloon with panoramic views, providing a protected workspace and a bright, comfortable environment.

  • A well-equipped galley, including a 3-burner gas oven, dual sinks, and a 144L refrigerator.

  • Comfortable space for 4 guests per expedition, offering a small-group experience for researchers and eco-tourists alike.

  • A dedicated watch post/chart table, ensuring efficient navigation and data logging.

An Expedition Vessel Built for the Future

Our Boréal 47.2, which will be named "Petit Loir", is set to become the backbone of our research-driven eco-tourism initiative. With its combination of durability, sustainability, and adaptability, it is the ideal platform for scientific fieldwork, biodiversity monitoring, and climate research in remote and pristine environments. Whether sailing through Norway's fjords, Arctic waters, or open ocean, this vessel is designed to provide a safe, efficient, and comfortable experience for both researchers and adventure travelers.

By choosing the Boréal 47.2 as our base of operations, we ensure that every expedition is conducted with safety, sustainability, and scientific integrity at its core.
